Matter vs Zigbee: what is the difference?
Zigbee is a low-power mesh network that needs a coordinator such as a bridge or hub. Matter is an IP-based application protocol designed to let supported devices work across compatible platforms. A Zigbee bridge can expose existing Zigbee devices to Matter, so the two technologies are not always direct replacements.
Choose Zigbee for an established lighting system with many compatible bulbs, switches, and sensors. Choose Matter when cross-platform basic control is the priority and the required Matter controller and network infrastructure are already available.
Thread vs Zigbee: which mesh should you choose?
Both can form low-power mesh networks. Zigbee uses a coordinator and its own non-IP network. Thread uses IPv6 and connects to the rest of the IP network through a Thread Border Router. Thread alone does not define which lighting commands a bulb understands; Matter commonly provides that application layer.
Matter vs Thread: why are both names on the box?

How do Wi-Fi smart bulbs work?
A Wi-Fi bulb connects to the router, usually without a separate manufacturer bridge. Many models are configured in a manufacturer app and linked to Alexa or Google Home through a cloud integration.

Limit: account, cloud, and local-control behavior vary; many direct devices also add connections to the router.
What is Bluetooth useful for in a smart bulb?
Bluetooth connects a nearby phone directly to the lamp. Basic control can work without internet, a router, or an account, although a manufacturer may still require an account for some app features.

Which option fits your setup?
